The end of spring is upon us! Luckily, Chandler has some great weather for enjoying some late spring events!  The month of May offers a mixture of indoor and outdoor events being held throughout Chandler that will be great fun for the entire family!

Mic Drop MANIA

Date: Fridays and Saturdays

Time: 7:00 p.m. (Family-Friendly) and 9:00 p.m. (Unfiltered)

Location: 250 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, AZ 85225

Admission: $10 + service fees

Details: Get ready for a night of laughs at the Mic Drop MANIA comedy shows. Located in Downtown Chandler, Mic Drop MANIA offers fast-paced, live comedy shows based on audience participation. The comedy troupe puts on hilarious shows based on suggestions from the audience and last approximately one hour. Two shows are offered every Friday and Saturday night, with the family-friendly show at 7:00 p.m. and the 9:00 p.m., unfiltered show for adults.

 

CinePark Movies in the Park

Dates: Fridays, May 6th, May 13th and May 20th

Time: 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Location: Tumbleweed Park, 2250 S. McQueen Road, Chandler, AZ 85286

Admission: Free

Details:  Plan a Friday evening out for the entire family by attending Chandler’s free movie series in May. CinePark is a free three-week movie series that will showcase family friendly movies at Tumbleweed Park.

The movie schedule for Chandler’s CinePark is:

May 6th – Inside Out
May 13th – Goosebumps
May 20th – Minions

The films will begin at 8:00 p.m., however, moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early to select their perfect viewing spot and participate in games and activities prior to the screening of each movie. Along with the games and activities, attendees will be able to purchase snacks (cash only) courtesy of local vendors.


Downtown Chandler Art Walk

Date: Friday, May 20, 2016

Time: 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Location: Dr. AJ Chandler Park, Downtown Chandler; 3 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, AZ 85225

Admission: Free

Details:  The Downtown Chandler Art Walk is held from 6-10:00 p.m., the 3rd Friday of every month from September through July. The Art Walk serves as a showcase for local artists and a great evening in Downtown Chandler. Artists display their work, ranging from oil painting and photographic to finely-crafted jewelry. Art Walk also includes live music, food and artist demonstrations.

 

Frank Lloyd Wright and a New Vision for Chandler

Date: Saturday, May 21, 2016

Time: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Location: Downtown Chandler Library, 22 S. Delaware Street, Chandler, AZ 85225

Admission: Free

Details:  Join the Chandler Museum staff for a discussion about Frank Lloyd Wright’s time in Chandler. The legendary architect worked on various projects in and around Chandler during the late 1920s to mid-1930s. Attendees can learn about his vision for Chandler through his correspondence with Dr. A.J. Chandler regarding multiple projects. This event is perfect for history buffs and for those looking to learn more about history of Chandler.


$5 Dollar Food Festival

Date: Saturday, May 21, 2016

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Location: Tumbleweed Park, 2250 S. McQueen Road, Chandler, AZ 85286

Details:  Tumbleweed Park hosts the $5 Dollar Food Festival featuring a variety of mobile food booths, trucks, and carts consisting of worldwide dishes and treats! All food vendors will offer food plates for $5 per dish (plus tax). Along with tasty food, the event will feature activities for kids such as face painting and balloon twisting as well as live music and dancing. Most vendors will only accept cash, so be sure to bring your cash to the event!

Crust Chandler’s 2nd Annual Great Rustica Race

Date: Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Time: 6:00– 10:00 p.m.

Location: Crust Chandler, 10 N. San Marcos Place, Chandler, AZ 85225

Registration Costs: $10 per team with sign-ups located at Crust Chandler.

Details:  Like pizza? Like scavenger hunts? Sign up for Crust Chandler’s 2nd Annual Great Rustica Race in celebration of National Scavenger Hunt Day. Participants will form teams of two and embark on the Great Rustica Race. The teams will aim to collect scavenger hunt items for the change to win free pizzas for one year! Check-in starts at 6:00pm with teams then receiving scavenger hunt game pieces and will have their time recorded. Once a team finds all of the items, they will return to Crust Chandler and have their time recorded. Top 3 teams will the shortest cumulative times will win prizes! Top prize is free rustica pizzas from Crust Chandler for a year, with second and third place winners winning gift cards from participating merchants.


TEDxChandlerPublic Library

Date: Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Location: Downtown Chandler Library, 22 S. Delaware Street, Chandler, AZ 85225

Time: 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Admission: Free, but registration is required

Details:  The Chandler Public Library hosts its second TEDx event featuring Arizona speakers that will discuss the arts, culture and creating the experience. Registration for this free event is required as spacing is limited to the first 100 attendees. The event will be emceed by local artist, author, entrepreneur and Chandler Arts Commission member Laurie Fagen. Speakers at the TEDx event include: Tomás Stanton – poet and co-founder of Phonetic Spit, Blaise Lantana – local radio personality and jazz musician, Stella Pope-Duarte – Award-winning author and David Specht – actor and Chandler business owner of Mic Drop MANIA. Additionally, the program also includes performances from Arathi School of Dance and Chandler Symphony’s Wind Ensemble.
