The Chandler Public Library offers a multitude of resources for its card holders. During the month of December, they are highlighting the 31 gifts they give patrons. Here are nine gifts on that list - those most appropriate for helping traverse holiday season travel. And, if you aren't a card holder...this list may give you a reason why you might want to consider getting a Chandler Public Library card.
E-books and audiobooks: Keep yourself (and your family) occupied on the plane, by the pool or in the car, with e-books and audiobooks that can be accessed through an app on your mobile device or tablet. Super easy to load and no hefting heavy books in your luggage!
Language learning programs: Going somewhere abroad where you may need to know phrases in another language? Mango can help you navigate travel-friendly phrases in Italian, Chinese, Russian, French, German and many more...even Pirate! Mango is easily accessible through an app so it is just a touch away on your phone or tablet.
Tumblebooks: If your kiddos are pre-reading or early reading level, Tumblebooks are a great resource of interactive picture books. There are even National Georgraphic videos, puzzles, and fun sing-along videos. This will be a kid pleaser while you wait at a restaurant or the airport.
Culture Pass: Card holders have the ability to check-out a pass for free entry to popular local cultural sites, such as the Desert Botanical Garden, Heard Museum and Phoenix Art Museum. If your budget is tight over the holidays, but you still want to give your family a cultural experience, Culture Pass is a great alternative!
Comfortable spaces and fun programming: While staying in Chandler, the Chandler Public Library's four locations serve as great places to relax and unwind. Pick up a book, access your email on a computer, or attend one of our unique programs. Age-appropriate children's programming - storytime to Minecraft Mondays - give your little ones (or not so little ones) a little bit of time to be a kid. Did I mention that the Downtown Library also has a coffee shop?
Global Road Warrior: Traveling somewhere new and want to know more? Global Road Warrior is a database available to library card holders that gives not just general demographics, but also cultural information about a place by providing insight into the people, traditions, language, food, music and customs. It also gives travel considerations for immunizations, health services and any security warnings.
Zinio: Magazines are a seemingly guilty pleasure while traveling. At the library, access hundreds of e-magazines on a tablet, computer, or mobile device through Zinio. High resolution images make it so you still have that glossy indulgence of a magazine in your hand. Go ahead and read Hello!, Us Weekly, Runner's World, Condé Nast Traveller, Saveur, Rolling Stone, or The New Yorker.
Not a resident of Maricopa County or Arizona, but you come to the area often? For $40 per year, you can get a card to the Chandler Public Library and access these resources and more. For additional information on Chandler Public Library, its databases and programs, visit www.chandlerlibrary.org.
