April is full of festival and events and it all kicks off today!   Chandler’s event preview is here with a quick list of eight key events not to be missed this month - and it all kicks off today with the return of the annual Chandler Jazz Festival! 

Chandler Jazz Festival

Date: Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2

Time: Main Stage performances are 5 -10 p.m. on both days, Sidewalk performances available on Saturday starting at 2:30 p.m.

Location: Downtown Chandler, just south of Chandler Blvd. on Arizona Avenue

Admission:  Free

The 17th annual Chandler Jazz Festival returns for a weekend of jazz, blues, and Latin-influenced jazz! Main stage performances on April 1st & 2nd will be held from 5 -10 p.m with lawn seating on the Downtown Chandler Library Plaza- so bring a blanket/towel or travel chair.  With over 14 bands and 70 musicians – it’s easy to see why this free festival is so popular.  Festival highlights include performances by El Chicano, RD Olson Blues Band, and Paul Cruize Blues Crew.  Make a day of it on Saturday as bands will line the sidewalks of Downtown Chandler on with performances starting at 2:30 p.m.  Throughout the festival, many of the Downtown Chandler restaurants, bars and shops will also feature bands and book signings.


Chandler Family Bird Walk

Date: Saturday, April 2, 2016

Time: 8:00 a.m.

Location: Veterans Oasis Park and Environmental Education Center, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ 85249

Admission: Free

It’s your last weekend of the season to enjoy a bit of urban birding with a guide from Desert Rivers, the local Audubon Society.  The guided bird walks are a great way to explore Veterans Oasis Park and learn more about the native and migratory birds that call Chandler, AZ home.  The morning activity is perfect for kids, families as well as novice and experienced birders.  Tours depart roughly every 15 minutes and explore the water recharge ponds and last approximately 45 minutes. This is a fun family activity for all ages!


Highland Yard Vintage Market

Date: Thursday, April 14, 2016 - Sunday, April 17, 2016

Time: Thursday from 7 a.m. -7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Location: Directly behind Merchant Square Antiques, 1509 N. Arizona Avenue,  Chandler, AZ 85225

Admission: Free

Calling all shoppers!  Highland Yard Vintage Market  is a brand new, curated shopping experienced located in a 6,000 sq foot warehouse located directly behind Merchant Square and will be unlike anything you’ve ever shopped before. This curated shopping experience will offer the best in home and garden decor from some of the most talented and popular designers, pickers and makers in Arizona. There is no admission fee and inventory will be restocked daily.


Downtown Chandler Art Walk – Taste of the Islands

Location: Dr. AJ Chandler Park, 3 S. Arizona Place, Chandler, Arizona 85225

Time: 6 -10:00 p.m.

Admission: Free

Feel the palm trees sway, enjoy the lovely sunset and feel the beat of the steel drums band. Downtown Chandler’s Art Walk is going tropical for April!  Break out your favorite Hawaiian shirts, leis, and straw hats for an evening of fun while exploring local artisan art featuring 50 local artisans while sampling tropical-inspired dishes and drinks from participating Downtown Chandler merchants.


Cars at Casa

Date: Saturday, April 16, 2016

Time: 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Location: The Shoppes at Casa Paloma, 7131 W. Ray Road, Chandler, AZ 85226

Admission: Free

Calling all car buffs- Cars at Casa returns to The Shoppes at Casa Paloma.  With an emphasis on European exotic and pre-1975 muscle cars, this is a great opportunity for car buffs to get up and close and see those beauties!  The event will be held in the parking lot directly in front of Coffin & Trout Jewelers and coffee and treats will be available from AJ’s and Nekter Juice + Coffee Stand. 


Great Southwest Cajun Fest

Date: Saturday, April 23, 2016

Time: Noon – 9 p.m.

Location: Dr. AJ Chandler Park—125 E Commonwealth Ave, Chandler, AZ 85225

Admission: General Admission is $10, kids 12 and under Free.  VIP admission is $65

Celebrating Cajun culture and handcrafted beer, the Great Southwest Cajun Fest will showcase the heart and soul of New Orleans paired with Arizona fusion and flavor. Featuring live music with jazz, blues and contemporary swing revival bands, festival patrons will feel transported to the southeastern region of Louisiana.

The main event, a big ol’ crawfish boil, provided by Angry Crab, gives guests a sample of Louisiana tradition, boiled to perfection with red potatoes, vegetables, lemon, special seasonings and more. Other menu items from Angry Crab include shrimp, charred oysters, crawfish rolls and cornbread.


Ballet Etudes’ Cinderella

Date: Saturday, April 23, 2016

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Avenue, Chandler AZ 85225

Admission: $16 and $22

The classic tale of beautiful Cinderella, her clumsy step-sisters, a magical Fairy Godmother, and a handsome Prince comes to life in Ballet Etudes’ fan-favorite production.  The performance is brimming with magical sets, beautiful costumes and original choreography making a performance you won’t want to miss.  Generally speaking, backstage tours are offered following most performances providing great insight into how the show is produced.


3rd Annual Chandler Craft Spirits Festival

Date: Saturday, April 30, 2016

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Downtown Ocotillo, 2475 W. Queen Creek Road, Chandler, AZ 85248

Admission: $10 -$60

The 3rd Annual Chandler Craft Spirits Festival will be held in a new location!  Sip on samples of over 50 cocktails, craft spirits and beer and wine cocktails.  Join in the fun and Arizona’s burgeoning booze scene and mix and mingle with more than 2,000 21+ fans while sampling dozens of diverse alcoholic beverages fit for fans of all types, from the alcohol apprentice to the cocktail connoisseur.
