Chihuahua Races
The Chandler Coalition for Civil and Human Rights, Inc. (C3HR) is holding its 14th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Historic Downtown Chandler. The family event, which showcases the famous Chihuahua Races and the crowning of the King and Queen of Chihuahuas, is set for 10 am to 11 pm Saturday, May 3. In addition to the wildly entertaining Chihuahua Races, there will be plenty of music, dancing and food for purchase. Generally 120+ Chihuahuas compete for bragging rights.
Tumbleweed Tree Lighting - December 4, 2010
The Tumbleweed Tree Lighting has been a tradition in Chandler since 1957. Starting with 1,500-2,000 tumbleweeds that decorate a 35-foot tall wire framed Christmas tree. The tumbleweeds are sprayed with 25 gallons of white paint, 20 gallons of flame retardant and dusted with 65 pounds of glitter. Once covered with about 1,200 holiday lights, it is ready to be lit up! This community festival draws an expected 12,000 residents each year to watch this magnificent event!
Ostrich Festival - March 11-13, 2011 The Ostrich Festival takes place at Tumbleweed Park for three days in March filled with music, entertainment and even a special "Kids Zone” just for kids! There are ostrich races, concerts, and all kinds of food - even ostrich burgers! This is a great way to celebrate Chandler's unique heritage. www.ostrichfestival.com
